Fink's History

In the late 1920's Chester Fink opened his garage on Fulton Street in York. He had previously worked for local Cadillac and Buick dealerships. In just a few short years, Chester purchased a warehouse on the west side of town near the York Fairgrounds, our present location. Considering this was during the Great Depression, the move was a courageous one. Fink's Garage became well known in the area for brake and alignment work.
In the 1940's, Chester welcomed his nephew, Richard "Dick" Munchel, to his staff and began teaching this high schooler the trade. After high school Dick was drafted to the Army during World War II. He served proudly in the Pacific Theatre. When he returned, Dick picked up where he left off; working at Fink's Garage.

The business thrived and it's good reputation grew into the 1950's. Fink's welcomed Gerald "Jerry" Leckrone to its staff in the late 1950's. Jerry brought a different skill set to the business as his strengths were with engines, transmissions, and drive ability.

In 1969, Chester Fink decided it was time to sell his business. The natural successor was his nephew, Richard Munchel, and his wife, Nancy. While Dick, Jerry, and other staff repaired the vehicles, Nancy staffed the office.
Following Chester's precedent, Dick introduced the business to his nephew, Damian "Dame" Deller in 1979. Dame was taught the "ropes" by Dick and Jerry. And when it came time for Dick and Nancy to sell the business in 1992, Damian and his wife, Alice, stepped up to the helm.

Over these 80 plus years, Fink's Garage has welcomed many to our "strange and wonderful" little family. We feel we are currently staffed with some of the most honest, knowledgable, and caring people. The shop, although it looks much the same, has evolved adding electronics and computerization skills while still retaining old time knowledge and service. So, we ask "How may we serve you?"
